Frond features in the Mayor’s 100 days of start-ups

Frond is featured in Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown’s 100 days of start-ups campaign. The Mayor visited the Newmarket Innovation Precinct to see our technology, and described Frond as building lightweight, deployable dragsails and booms that help operators safely de-orbit satellites at end of life and keep Earth’s orbit clean.

We also showed a mid-scale boom system. A version of it, called PERCH, has been integrated with the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Space Laboratory RAVEN advanced camera payload. It is heading to orbit early next year on Gilmour Space Technologies’ MMS-2 ElaraSat, to capture imagery of the satellite in orbit and of the Earth below.

Thank you to the Mayor and his team for backing Auckland’s space and deep-tech companies.
