Two funded PhDs through the Applied Doctorates Scheme

Frond has partnered with the University of Auckland and Victoria University of Wellington on two funded PhD projects, supported by the Applied Doctorates Scheme.

  • Small debris detection. In-situ detection of small debris, micrometeorites and cosmic dust, for Earth-orbit monitoring and for cislunar and solar system science. Hosted by the University of Auckland.
  • Partial gravity. A new test bed for experiments in partial gravity, bridging the gap between research for the Moon and for Mars. Hosted jointly by the University of Auckland and Victoria University of Wellington.

Alongside the technical work, the students learn advanced business and entrepreneurial skills, work with industry leaders, and take on real-world challenges that turn research into change in science, technology and innovation. Frond is the industry partner on both projects, with the students placed in Auckland.

Applications closed on 10 September, for enrolment by March 2027. The scheme supports 22 projects in all.
