Versatile boom technology for a range of applications
Inspection Boom
Satellite “Selfie Stick”
Initial configuration of Boom system in a CubeSat compatible form factor provides stereoscopic imagery of the host spacecraft with auto-retraction capability in the event of a spacecraft anomaly
2m deployable length
Trusted terrestrial supplier
We work with RolaTube Technology Limited, a trusted supplier of rollable composites to deliver our complete systems. Our standard booms support payload deployment up to 2m from the host spacecraft
Environmentally qualified systems
Mission assurance
Qualified to GEVS levels (14.1Grms) with -30°C to +60°C operational temperature range.
Configuration options
Deployment mode
Our novel mechanism design allows for different modes of deployment depending on your application:
– One-shot spring driven deployment
– Motor driven deploy and stow operation
– Deploy and stow operation allowing auto-retraction during spacecraft anomalies
Boom tip payload
By default, our boom systems include 12 wires embedded within the carbon fibre boom supplying power and data signals to the boom tip payload avoiding additional cable management headaches. We can support your own boom tip payload, develop in house, or work with partners to address your mission needs.
Hold Down Release Mechanism (HDRM)
A single HDRM circuit is included by default allowing for secure mounting of boom tip payloads for launch. Burn-wire and low profile shockless shape memory alloy HDRMs are available.
Precision positioning
Our initial systems include coarse home and end point position switches, as well as encoder positioning with 2mm accuracy.
Boom length
Whilst our initial boom mechanisms support booms of up to 2m length, we are working with our partners to support booms of up to 16m deployed length
Mounting interface
Initially designed for CubeSat interface, our boom systems have versatile options for mounting and enclosures.
